Ford County Release Outcomes
“Released” is not one event with one meaning. A person can leave the Ford County Jail after posting bond, completing a local jail term, receiving credit for time served, obtaining a dismissal, or receiving another court order. The person may still have bond terms, probation, or another pending case. In a different path, Ford County can transfer the person to the Kansas Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, federal prison custody, or immigration custody. That transfer ends the Ford jail stay but does not show a return to the community.
A live population list answers who appears confined at the moment. It is not a history of departures. Ford’s official Population Log also warns that recent changes may lag, and its visible jail-log area was empty or under construction when researched. A missing name is therefore only a clue. Confirm the custody event through the jail, Sheriff Records, Kansas VINE, the criminal case, or the receiving agency. The release or transfer type determines which source should come next.

Ford County Release Record Fields
Ford County does not publish a sample release form or public field list. Ask for an existing booking or custody-event record rather than assuming the Sheriff uses a document titled “release record.” A useful response ties the correct person and booking to the end of Ford custody. It should also distinguish a community release from a transfer. Requesting both the event type and destination prevents a bare timestamp from being read too broadly.

The court record supplies a different layer. It may show the bond order, dismissal, sentence, probation, revocation, discharge, or satisfaction that explains the legal case. Yet an order’s timestamp is not always the time a person walked out. Processing, another hold, or a transfer can intervene. Read the Sheriff event and court disposition together when exact timing and legal authority both matter.
Request Ford County Release Records
The Ford County Sheriff Records Division is the local custodian for Sheriff’s Office records. Contact Records Supervisor Anai Razo at arazo@fordcounty.net or 620-227-4501. No dedicated records-counter hours, fixed booking-photo fee, or special Sheriff production period was published, so call before an in-person visit. The Sheriff and jail are at 11311 E Comanche, Dodge City, KS 67801; the Sheriff mailing address is P.O. Box 747, Dodge City, KS 67801.
- Give the full name, date of birth or another identifier, and a narrow date range.
- Add the booking number when known.
- Ask for the booking/intake record and the custody-event record showing actual release or transfer date and time.
- Request the recorded disposition type and receiving destination, plus the linked booking photograph in its existing electronic format.
- Ask for an itemized estimate before costs are incurred and a cited legal basis for any withholding or redaction.
The county’s open-records form supports mail, fax, email, and pickup and provides fields for labor, materials, postage, and other costs. It lists the County Clerk at 100 Gunsmoke, Dodge City, KS 67801, fax 620-227-4699, and dcox@fordcounty.net. Use it as a written template, but direct Sheriff records to the Sheriff custodian first.
Ford’s revised 2025 fee schedule lists up to 25 copies at $0.25 per letter-size page and $0.35 per legal-size page. Over 25 copies, it lists $0.25 per page plus $30 per hour. These are not a flat photo fee. Under K.S.A. 45-219, an agency may charge actual furnishing costs, use the lowest-cost staff needed, require advance payment, and provide an itemized statement. K.S.A. 45-218 requires action by the end of the third business day, but that is an action or acknowledgment deadline, not a promise of final delivery.
Ford County Record Access Limits
The Kansas Open Records Act governs the request route, but public access is not unlimited. K.S.A. 45-221 permits closure of some identifiable correctional information while identifying specified KDOC details as disclosable, including core identifiers, photographs, sentence and supervision information, facility or parole-office details, and certain releasee information. A county booking-photo request can still raise investigative, privacy, sealed, juvenile, or expungement issues. If access is denied, request the precise statutory basis.
Kansas court guidance excludes sealed and expunged records, many juvenile and child-in-need-of-care cases, adoptions, and some investigative or grand-jury material from ordinary public access. Adult criminal court files that are not reproduced are retained for at least 100 years after filing under current Kansas Supreme Court Rule 108. A case is not treated as closed merely because confinement ended; sentence satisfaction or discharge matters. A record may therefore outlast the live jail listing by many decades.
Ford County Attorney publishes local expungement forms. Current K.S.A. 21-6614 measures many waiting periods from sentence satisfaction or discharge from probation, parole, postrelease, community corrections, conditional release, or a suspended sentence. Eligibility varies by case and offense. Expungement changes public access and agency treatment, but it does not justify assuming the underlying event never occurred or promising that every independently published item will vanish.
Find Ford County Released Inmates
Use a source chain instead of relying on roster disappearance. The official Population Log is meant for current custody, not release history, and no official Ford County 24-hour or 72-hour release feed was found. The most reliable order is:
- Call the Ford County Jail at 620-227-4501 and ask whether the person is currently held and whether the departure was a release or transfer.
- Check Kansas VINE for a county-jail custody event, while remembering that it is not a permanent archive.
- Request the Sheriff booking and release/disposition or transfer record.
- Search the Ford criminal case for the legal authority, such as a bond order, dismissal, sentence, or probation.
- If transfer is possible, search KASPER, BOP, or ICE ODLS according to the likely destination.
A person listed yesterday but missing today should not be described as released without that follow-up. The jail page may lag or fail. A VINE transfer alert is also not proof of return to the community. Read the destination, check KASPER if KDOC may have received the person, and obtain the local transfer entry when a durable record is needed. KASPER Ford County Release Search
KASPER, the Kansas Adult Supervised Population Electronic Repository, is the state-sentence channel. It covers people sentenced to the Secretary of Corrections since 1980 who are incarcerated, under post-incarceration supervision, or discharged. It does not cover an ordinary Ford jail stay that never entered KDOC. Start at the official KASPER search. Use a KDOC number when available. Otherwise search last and first name, then narrow with middle name, alias, birth date, Ford as conviction county, KBI number, race, gender, or supervision type.

Those controls help separate people with similar names before a status or date is interpreted.
Open a match only after comparing identifiers. “Incarcerated” means KDOC confinement continues. Parole, conditional release, or postrelease supervision supports prison exit while legal supervision continues. “Discharged” is stronger evidence that the KDOC sentence ended. KDOC’s exact forward-looking label is “Anticipated release date.” It is not a guaranteed exit time. Credits, forfeitures, court orders, and other sentence facts can change it, and KASPER updates on working days.

Ford Release Orders and Bonds
Ford County belongs to the six-county Sixteenth Judicial District. Its approved bond-agent page is dated August 19, 2019 and includes covered counties and maximum amounts. The date matters. Confirm that an agent remains approved with the court or jail before relying on the list. Posting bond can end the jail stay after processing, but it neither disposes of the criminal case nor rules out another hold.
The statewide Kansas CaseSearch accepts case number, party name, citation, county, case type, birth date, and filing-date filters. Select Ford County and Criminal. Look for bond, dismissal, journal entry, sentence, probation, revocation, discharge, or satisfaction. Online data is not the official court record, so request a copy from Ford District Court at 101 W. Spruce, Dodge City, when the public summary is incomplete.

Match the docket to the booking before using an order to explain a custody event. State criminal cases belong in District Court; Dodge City ordinance cases belong in Municipal Court. Calling the wrong clerk can lead to a false no-record result.
Property After Ford County Release
Ford County states that all personal property is returned when a person leaves the jail and that remaining account funds are issued on a debit card. The card is a balance-return method, not a documented cash benefit or “gate money” program. Property left behind is disposed of after 30 days. That creates a real deadline for someone who did not receive or retrieve an item during departure.
Contact the jail promptly at 620-227-4501 about a missing item or release balance. Give the correct name, booking period, and a way to identify the property. No official transportation-home program, release packet, identification-replacement service, or general reentry office was found in Ford County’s published material, so those services should not be assumed.
Where Ford Jail Releases Occur
The modern Ford County Jail has 256 beds and covers about 80,000 square feet. Its design can expand to 500 beds and includes distinct male and female work-release entrances. The county also describes a separate dress-out-and-release route that does not cross Intake and Booking traffic. This confirms a planned physical release process, but it does not identify the public exit door.
No official release hours, weekend or holiday timing, family waiting rules, or transportation program was found. Call before traveling or waiting at an assumed entrance. The Sheriff’s institutional history dates Ford County service to 1873, while the current facility description supplies unusually clear detail about how the modern release route is separated from incoming traffic.
Ford County Post-Release Supervision
Parole and probation are not interchangeable. Parole or mandatory postrelease supervision follows a KDOC prison term. KASPER may name the supervising office, and the Dodge City Parole Office at 208 W. Spruce serves Ford, Clark, Gray, Hodgeman, Lane, and Ness counties. Its phone is 620-225-1233. A KASPER parole or postrelease status supports departure from prison, not full sentence discharge. “Discharged” marks a different endpoint. See Parole & Probation for the local agency split and verification steps. An absconder entry means the agency alleges the person avoided supervision or made their whereabouts unknown. It is not proof of a new conviction or present confinement.
Ford Release Alerts and Transfers
Kansas VINE covers Kansas county jails, including Ford County Jail, and expressly excludes KDOC prisoners. Search by name or offender identification number through VINELink or call 1-866-574-8463. A result may show the offender number, present custody status, location, and a scheduled release date when available. Ford’s fact sheet says county-jail data transfers every 15 minutes, which is frequent but not instant. VINE can report release, transfer, or escape, but it is a notification service rather than an official release certificate.
Federal cases require separate tools. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. A “RELEASED” location or past release date establishes the end of BOP custody only. It does not rule out supervision or custody elsewhere. ICE ODLS is limited to current qualifying immigration detention. No result can reflect a spelling issue, transfer, removal, release, short CBP custody, or another scope limit. For federal pretrial matters, use the District of Kansas docket because the U.S. Marshals Service has no public real-time release-history locator.

Ford County Release Facility
The facility map contains one public county detention facility: Ford County Jail, operated by the Ford County Sheriff’s Office. No KDOC prison, BOP institution, dedicated ICE detention center, or separate regional jail was found in Ford County’s official facility material. The jail’s work-release areas are components of this facility, not independent locations.
A person may leave this jail for the community under bond, time served, dismissal, another court order, or a work-release arrangement. The person may instead transfer to KDOC, another jurisdiction, or a federal or immigration custodian. Use the Sheriff event’s type and destination to choose the next system. That final check is what turns a missing roster name into an accurate account of where Ford County custody ended.
